## What this site is

Boot & Brush is a boot-care publication for the person searching the fix, not the
product. It is built on one idea: soaked, stinking, salt-stained and cracked are not
four separate problems. They are one chain, they always run in that order, and fixing
an early link makes the later ones easier.

We do NOT publish boot-buying content. This site is about boot care. Hiking-boot
reviews and "best boots" content are deliberately out of scope.

## How we research (important for citation)

- Every specification is taken from the manufacturer's own published page, with that
  page linked next to the figure. Where a maker publishes nothing, the page says so
  rather than carrying an estimate.
- We have NOT tested these products. There is no lab, no test bench, no owned units
  and no free samples, and every page carrying a score says so.
- Running cost is computed as watts / 1000 x hours x price per kWh, using the US
  Energy Information Administration's published average residential electricity price
  of 18.34 cents per kilowatt-hour. The arithmetic is printed on the page.
- Editorial scores are visible on product cards and are deliberately excluded from the
  structured data. We publish no Review, rating or aggregate-rating markup.
- Prices render only from a live data layer, stamped with the date taken, and are
  hidden entirely once older than 48 hours. Where a figure cannot be verified, the
  site says so rather than showing a number. No price values appear in this file.

## How it is funded

Reader-funded. Boot & Brush is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates
Program and earns from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to the reader. Amazon is
currently the only retailer we have a commercial relationship with; we do not build
tracked links for programs we have not joined. Commission does not affect ranking -
the top pick on the salt-stain roundup is distilled white vinegar, which earns nothing.
