How this site is funded

The short version

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we earn a commission from the retailer. It costs you nothing extra - the price you pay is the same as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly.

Every earning link on this site is marked. Buy buttons carry an #ad label with a link back to this page, and outbound commercial links are tagged so search engines can identify them as sponsored.

Amazon Associates

Boot & Brush is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Amazon is currently the only retailer we have a commercial relationship with. We have not joined any other affiliate network, and we do not build tracked links for programs we have not joined. If that changes, this page changes with it.

What the commission does not change

This is the part that matters, so here is the evidence rather than a promise:

• The top-ranked product on our salt stains roundup is distilled white vinegar. It earns us essentially nothing. It is ranked first because Timberland publishes a 1:2 vinegar and water solution and it works, and because you can probably see a bottle from where you are sitting.
• Our deodorizer roundup opens by telling you to buy a dryer. The most useful intervention for boot odor is removing the moisture, so that is what the page says, on a page that earns from deodorizers.
• The highest-return advice in our odor hub is “take the insoles out.” Free, and we lead with it.
• Every product carries a reason not to buy it. The “skip this one if” line is a required field on every entry in our product registry, not an optional flourish.

No brand pays to appear here, no product can be added to a roundup by arrangement, and commission rates play no part in ranking. If a cheaper option is the right answer, it wins. The full standard is in the editorial policy.

How prices on this site work

Prices are pulled from a live data layer and stamped with the date they were taken. If a price is more than 48 hours old, it is not shown - it disappears automatically and the button reverts to “Check price on Amazon.”

That is why many buy buttons on this site do not display a number. It is deliberate. Retail prices change constantly, and a price that was accurate last month is worse than no price at all, because it looks like information. Always confirm the current price on the retailer’s own page before buying.

What we have not tested

All of it. We do not own these products, there is no lab, and no manufacturer sends us anything. Our rankings are built from published manufacturer specifications, documented instructions and computed running costs, and the method is set out in full in how we research.

The editorial scores you see on product cards are our judgment based on that research. They are deliberately excluded from the structured data this site publishes, because presenting an untested opinion as a machine-readable product rating would be a claim we have not earned.

Where your click goes

Buy buttons route through a link on this domain that redirects you to the retailer. It exists so a destination can be updated in one place, and it does not collect personal information about you. We record aggregate click volume through our analytics so we can tell which pages are useful - what we cannot see is what you subsequently bought. Details on the privacy policy page.

Your rights and our obligations

This disclosure exists to comply with the US Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements and testimonials, which requires clear and conspicuous disclosure of material connections between a publisher and the products it recommends. We would rather over-disclose than have you wonder.
