Editorial policy

Independence

No brand pays to appear on this site. There is no sponsored placement, no paid review, no arrangement under which a product can be added to a roundup or moved up one, and no product supplied to us in exchange for coverage - because no product is supplied to us at all.

We earn commission on some outbound links, which is set out in full on the affiliate disclosure page. Commission rates play no part in ranking. The clearest evidence is on the page itself: our top-ranked salt stain remover is distilled white vinegar, which pays nothing.

Sourcing standards

• Manufacturer pages for product facts. Specifications come from the maker’s own published page, linked in the table beside the figure. Retail listings are not an acceptable source - they are frequently wrong.
• Named institutions for general claims. Where we describe a mechanism rather than a product, we cite a source you can check.
• No number without a source. If a figure cannot be traced to a published document, it does not go on the page. Blank rows and “not published by the manufacturer” appear throughout this site for that reason.
• Every page lists its sources. At the bottom, as links, so you can go and read them.

What we will not publish

• Testing we did not do. We do not own these products and there is no lab. Any phrasing implying hands-on testing is an error - report it.
• Credentials we do not hold. No certifications, no “medically reviewed by,” no expert panel, no tenure claims. The author is an enthusiast and the site says so.
• Invented reviews or testimonials. There are none anywhere on this site. Boot & Brush launched in 2026 and has no customers to quote, so quoting any would be fabrication.
• Estimated prices, ratings or review counts. Prices come from a live data layer or are not shown.
• Rating markup for products we have not tested. Our editorial scores are visible on the page and deliberately excluded from the structured data.
• Links to pages that do not exist. We do not link to planned content.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. A correction that changes a fact, a figure or a recommendation gets a dated note on the page - we do not edit silently and let the original claim disappear.

Report an error to info@bootandbrush.com or via the contact page. It helps enormously if you include the page and, where you have one, the source that contradicts us - a manufacturer page that publishes a figure we called unpublished is the single most useful thing you can send.

Updates

• Prices are refreshed automatically and carry the date they were taken. Anything older than 48 hours is hidden rather than shown stale.
• Product pages are revisited when a manufacturer changes a published specification, when a product is discontinued, or when a reader tells us something has changed.
• Every page carries its publication and last-updated dates in the byline, and the sitemap uses those real dates rather than the build timestamp - so a page that has not changed does not claim to have.

Authorship

Everything here is written by Scooter M., described accurately as an enthusiast. The byline on a page and the author in that page’s structured data always name the same person, and we do not use a vague “editorial team” byline to imply a staff that does not exist. More on the about page.

AI and content generation

This site is produced with the help of software, and the rules above apply regardless: every specification is traced to a manufacturer page, every computation is shown, and nothing is published because it sounded plausible. The failure mode of generated text is confident invention, which is exactly what the no-number-without-a-source rule exists to catch.

Reader safety

Where a topic touches safety we say what we do not know. On fuel-contaminated boots we tell readers to check structural integrity and to ask a safety officer or the manufacturer about certification, because that is not a question a boot-care site should answer. We would rather send you elsewhere than guess.
